Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly a summer target for Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Brazilian midfielder is playing in his third season at the Magpies since his reported £40million from Lyon in January 2022.

Guimaraes played a key role in their Champions League qualification last season and has made 31 Premier League starts in this campaign.

However, Newcastle look set for a battle to keep the 26-year-old this summer amid interest from other top European sides.

The Daily Telegraph report that both Arsenal and City are considering moves for Guimaraes, who is said to be aware of their admiration.

It would see them battle for another top midfielder from a club outside the 'top six' after their pursuit for West Ham's Declan Rice.

Arsenal came out on top when they signed him in a £105million deal but they and City could face competition elsewhere for Guimaraes.

talkSPORT understands Arsenal and City are two of a number of clubs interested in the Brazil international, including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, nothing is advanced in terms of any club pursuing Guimaraes.

His contract at Newcastle, which currently runs until 2028, is said to have a £100million release clause.

Such a fee is the base sum Arsenal paid for Rice last summer and one that would be the Magpies' most expensive sale ever, smashing Andy Carroll's £35million move to Liverpool in 2011.

Guimaraes is not the only Newcastle player who has emerged as a target for the Gunners as Alexander Isak has also been linked.

talkSPORT understands Eddie Howe's side are keen to renegotiate his contract at St. James' Park to help avert interest.

A clause in his current deal means he could lose up to 20 per cent of his wages if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League.

They currently sit 6th in the Premier League and 16 points off the top four but even with two games in hand, it could be too late for them.

It could therefore be a huge summer of change for Newcastle as they face a battle to keep hold of key stars for next season.
