He aimed to lead Norway to a spot at the European Championships this summer but unfortunately, they failed to qualify.

Their hopes of gaining a place in the group stage were ended in October last year following a defeat to Spain and a draw with Scotland

A 1-0 loss at home to La Roja ended their chances of automatic qualification before results elsewhere meant they couldn’t even reach the play-offs

Norway had lost some pivotal games in the early stages of Euro 2024 qualifying and that ultimately cost them.

During the opening fixtures, they would lose 2-1 to Scotland and Haaland struggled.

The game came only a week after Man City completed the treble in the Champions League final and that seemed to impact his fitness.

He had to come off in the latter stages of the game with manager Stale Solbakken admitting: "In the last few minutes Erling was on the field, we played with one less man.

“He was completely empty. He had run out of steam."

Only three minutes after his substitution, Norway conceded and went on to lose a crucial clash which played a part in them missing out on qualification.

Haaland has still never managed to play in a major international tournament, with the star now having to pin his hopes on the next World Cup.

Another big name in Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard has also missed out with the Norwegians and won’t be playing at Euro 2024 either.

Sweden have also failed to qualify, meaning Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski and Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof also won’t be there.

And Wales will be absent too after losing on penalties to Poland in their play-off final.
