Ipswich Town mural at Barrack Lane, Norwich Road corner painted over after relegation
A mural celebrating Ipswich Town’s first foray into the Premier League in two decades has been painted over following their relegation.
The artwork, on the corner of Barrack Lane and Norwich Road, was painted in August to mark the Tractor Boys’ return to the top flight of English football.
However, the club’s fate was sealed after a loss to Newcastle in April confirmed its relegation to the Championship – with it playing its final game, against West Ham, on Sunday, losing 3-1.
The mural depicted Town boss Kieran McKenna and captain Sam Morsy, plus other players and an appearance by Ed Sheeran, who owns a minority stake in the club.
It was painted by TNT Sports.
Ipswich Town were promoted to the Premier League after a win against Huddersfield on May 4, 2024.
This was the first time they played in the league since 2002.
